Although not 'the dodgems' as there are probably half a dozen dodgem rides scattered around the Goose Fair Site
High ISO : 1600
Wide Open Aperture : f4
I think they look quite good in mono as it gives the shot a retro feel.
I was reading up about mono conversions and read something about pseudo greys , whereby you can increasing the available levels of perceived grey by using a bit-stealing technique. Anyway the GIMP black and white conversion routine using the G'MIC plugin has a pseudo grey tick box and slider, so I invoked the maximum possible value on the slider bar.
The net effect was a nice image but i felt i needed a bit more oomph. GIMP also has a shed load of filters and one I have tried a few times is "National Geographic". It is essentially for colour images , but I don't really understand it, however I tried it on my mono image.
It seemed to add some oomph and retain the greys but also made the black a tad deeper
I hope you like the dodgems. Sometimes known as bumper cars depending upon where you live in the country :)
Quite grainy because of the high ISO, but it does help create a nice mood
Bumper cars for me Phil! They used to be just a boy the most exciting ride on the pleasure beach at Blackpool or any fairground...a bit tame these days I think for today's young! Love the retro feel he, I almost expect to see a Teddy boy lounging up against the post!
A teddy boy could have made a good strangers' portrait?! I have less than fond memories of dodgem cars as Clare hit and cut her head and landed up in A&E - many years ago.
