I was in Nottingham on Thursday morning and the city was very quiet “early doors”. So I had a wander up to the castle area of the city, to see if I could find a photo opportunity in the tourist area of the city.
I took some photos around the castle and noticed a young lady setting up the outside area of the Crafty Crow bar. I approached Olive and introduced myself to her. I told Olive I’d seen her setting up the tables, chairs and boundary posts and it looked quite a difficult job. Olive had to carry everything down the entrance steps to the bar and it was quite a large seating area. Olive told me it was quite a work out and she didn’t need to go to a gym after setting everything up.
I asked Olive about the bar and she told me the bar was a micro brewery and was part of the Magpie brewery estate. The bar had only two Magpie beers on their eight hand pulls, the rest of the real ale selection was on constant rotation and came from a wide range of micro-breweries from all over the country and also includes local breweries.
I asked if they got lots of real ale buffs in the bar and Olive told me they had a diverse set of clients. I also asked Olive if they sold food, Olive told me that they had no chef at the moment and therefore were not selling food until the they found one.
I asked Olive to stand in the doorway of the entrance to the bar as the wooden backdrop would be ideal for her portrait. I didn’t notice the big logo over Olives right shoulder, but it is sufficiently blurred as to not to be distracting.
Thank you for taking part in my strangers project Olive. When I asked Olive if she wanted a copy of the photos, she said it was OK to post them online, but she didn’t want any copies
Olives story is quite similar to that of Hannah (stranger 282), i.e. an employee of a micro brewery bar setting up the outside seating area of prior to opening. Both strangers however were great to photograph and created superb images for my project.
Wow, you always find the best subjects to capture. I think you have a magnet to attract them and convince them to sit for you. This girl is another beauty and you have captured her pretty well. Fav.
Olive has the look of a gentle person (the lovely soft light reflects that, I think) - and sounds as if her work keeps her fit!
Another good 'un for that ever-expanding portfolio, Phil. Taken together, the images and their narratives provide an interesting and informative overview of the 'everyday' people we all usually pass by in the street, to whom we probably never give a second thought. In a way, they're also a reminder that there are other people in the world besides us and our families and friends.

Thanks everyone for your terrific comments and continued support. It is really appreciated
@dulciknit Alison, I am hoping to get to 300 by the end of the year. I started in September 2015, which makes it just short of 50 strangers per year
