Flying The Flag

This is a difficult write up. I consider myself a street photographer, preferring my "stranger" photos to tell the story of the streets.

However, most weekends in Nottingham there are demonstrations regarding the situation in Gaza. Pro-Palestine demonstrators meet in the city centre calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

I took some photos of the demonstrations. I asked this young lady if I could take her photo.

It's a very emotional topic, dividing politicians, people and families.

People are horrified by what has happened in both Israel and Gaza. How humans can behave in this manner is beyond belief. I think that's allI need say on the subject.

As John Lennon once said "All we are saying is give peace a chance"

I hope the above narrative doesn't upset my 365 friends, this is just a reportage photo of life on Nottingham's streets in 2024
A beautiful story telling image Phil. How could one be upset with your post?

@corinnec thanks corinne , I am pleased my words read OK , it's a very emotional subject , so one has to be respectful in one's words

I heard about it - sad indeed

I appreciate and agree with your comments Phil. I'll never understand people's inhumanity to each other. It's heartbreaking and devastating. Nice documentation of the protest.

Love your image Phil - - tells the story of today's inhumanity towards each other . The world is a mess and we can not turn our backs to ignore it !

As Spock would say, " the situation is totally illogical," but most people are ruled by their emotions and allow their feelings to overrule their heads. You captured the emotion very well. Unfortunately, as long as emotions rule, peace and logic will not prevail... And on that note - Vulcans Rule! Heh.

Beyond belief really sums up this ongoing situation, Phil - and we are helpless to do anything. A thoughtful shot and post.

A strong journalistic image Phil. Your narrative is caring and fair.

This is going on in Sydney too

your project your choices Phil. I like this doco style image and nice choice for black and white. I think its lovely that you are so considerate of others.

Good powerful composition - and you're not unwise to tread carefully, there is so much anti-semitic and anti-muslim rhetoric and, worse, behaviour out there fomented by those who have 'agendas' - when as all right thinking people know, all that really matters is that ordinary people from both sides are experiencing and have experienced horrific suffering - the people to blame are the politicians, warmongers and empire builders - they are the terrorists and they exist on both sides. Look what you started me on now...

Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was an immediate ceasefire. A great image.

A powerful image, Phil. Yes, very sad to see humanity going down so low and see all the suffering of so many innocent people. World wars have long been gone and still many have not learned the lesson.

@marlboromaam very philosophical mags, plus I didn't have you down as a Trekker / Trekkie 😄📷

Interesting to hear about the protests in Nottingham. I think a lot of young people in particular are out on the streets?

It's a great street shot, and good to report what is happening on our streets. Appropriately presented in black & white

Your image and your narrative are both spot-on. It's a terrible situation that just seems to have no possible humane ending.

@phil_howcroft Yep. I was a preteen when Star Trek aired. =)
March 10th, 2024
Nice comment from Mags, from one Star Trek fan to another. But on a more serious note yes, you were right in taking the picture and your words are very well said. There is no right and wrong, both sides need to step back and stop the suffering. Lovely photo too.
