I thought at first that this may have been a Song Thrush, but on referring to my bible, the RSPB Pocket Guide to British Birds (available from all good booksellers (and Amazon)) it is what I suspected, just a female Blackbird.
She was sat on the fence post, making a miserable attempt to shelter from the snow that finally began to fall in the Shire around 0900 (hence the streaks on the photograph). We have a regular nesting pair, but recently (since I increased the feeders I think) we have a couple of interloping pairs. The Blackbird is incredibly territorial and the spats between 3 male and 3 female Blackbirds can be quite amusing.
You'll all be pleased to know, I think I'm fast running out of birds to photograph that visit our garden
The common blackbird is a species of true thrush. It is also called Eurasian blackbird, or simply blackbird where this does not lead to confusion with a similar-looking local species.
