Hummel Figurine by phil_sandford

Hummel Figurine

Goebel Hummel figurines are a series of porcelain child like figurines based on the drawings of Sister Maria Innocentia.

My mother had a few of these figurines and when we lived in Berlin in the 80s Carole also picked up a few. One excursion into West Berlin (the NAAFI (UK equivalent to the US PX) didn’t sell them) by yours truly to buy Carole one as a Christmas present from the KaDaWe (Berlin’s Harrods) saw me arrested at gun point for armed bank robbery. True story, but for another time.

We have only kept two of the figurines, this one being a child dressed as a nurse for obvious reasons and another that was my Mother's.

Thank you for your views, comments and favs on yesterday’s offering. Much appreciated.
Very cute. I did not fully understand the narrative - the part with the arrest. But if I keep following you, one day I'll find out.

Very cute - the nurse seems to be telling the little boy to be more careful next time! Your story sounds fascinating!

They have such sweet faces. Your processing is marvelous with the soft focus and high key exposure.

Charming capture. I remember them from the '50's and '60s, very popular then.

"a few" that's an understatement!!! What did you do with them all- charity shopped or e-bay??!!

Nice high key

This one is so sweet and yes, the nurse is perfect for your Carole. Mother had a Hummel that somehow went missing when she moved to the assisted living center. “Armed bank robbery”? Don’t leave us hanging like this!

This is beautiful. My mother in law had some of these but I never knew the story behind them so thank you Phil. Now you really have to tell the story of your arrest 😂.

I have quite a few of thee gorgeous figurines. I stopped collecting them shortly after discovering that I could by them on ebay for a fraction of the original price.
