'These are a few of my favourite things.'

I don't really like musicals, but the words seemed to fit the sentiment. I love reading, especially French novels, but also like physically having the books in my bookshelves. Kindle me no kindle!
Have noted the titles for future reference!

Lucky (and clever) you being able to read them in French. I confess I have succumbed to a Kindle - but only part time!! I hate to say it but they are great for downloading foreign language books too - I got one for my father-in-law because he's learning Spanish (and then sent it back because he wanted a new Sat Nav!!)

I am so totally impressed! I'd love to know a second language.

@thursday - you really could! I was so lucky to go to a girls' grammar school and be taught French from age 11 in a very structured way - I've always loved it.

I love French food & wine, listening to the language is oh la la and gives me goose bumps. I got an A for French at school but never carried it into my Senior Years. Big mistake.

@judithg I have a kindle too - but it always leaves me with a sort of empty feeling after I have finished a book - can't really explain what I mean. Its as if the story just disappears into thin air. I just miss the physical presence of a real book! and like you use it part-time!

@quietpurplehaze I do recommend Anna Galvada - all her books are hugely enjoyable. I'm not a thriller addict but I adore Fred Vargas ( a woman), I think she is just about no.1 in France at the moment. Very popular and by no means run of the mill crime.

@doblaine It's not too late! Find a good adult ed evening class!! I think, for me, the beauty of French lies not just in the sounds but the regular syllabic rhythm as opposed to the stress-timed rhythm of the English language.

@tishpics It was my choice when my turn to introduce a book to my French Lit group and it was fantastic to study it in even more depth with other people. I'll have a look for Anna Galvada & Fred Vargas' books - so little time and so much to read and so many other things to do!!!!!!!!!!!

@tishpics I get all my French novels from Amazon UK now - you don't have to pay postage! Just have to make sure they are in French when you do the order!!!

@quietpurplehaze Didn't know about the free p&P - thanks for that, will check it out

@tishpics I haven't read many proper novels on it yet but I know what you mean - I miss the feeling when you're nearing the end of a book and it's reaching a climax etc - somehow you don't get that with a Kindle - but you can make the writing bigger and they are nice and light!
