Day 6: red (a) by quietpurplehaze
You've got it all going on here lady, bokeh, droplet, focus, dof and texture, cool shot!!! I must replace my plant, I lost mine one winter, they flower for such a long time.

@cleanfreak Carole, thanks! I could not believe as I was taking some shots of this, that a little droplet of nectar trickled out and I caught it about 2 secs before it fell. This is a tiny tiny plant a friend gave Ray. It's in a really small pot and just has this flower.
I understand they are not very hardy and he's thinking carefully where to plant it.

@quietpurplehaze I had one for many years planted in the ground, against the house, on a west facing wall. It survived very well, and gre into a substantial plant about 6 feet. But sadly took for the worst a couple of years ago. My neighbour has a cutting from my plant in her garden and is going strong, that is also in the same aspect. Good luck to Ray with his decision.

@cleanfreak Oh thanks, I'll tell him that.

oh this is lovely, so fragile, and almost faded, rather like the dress of one of the Flower Fairies (in the books I still refer to!!) You even have a droplet too! Beautiful.

Very, very nice! I agree with Carole on all the points she mentioned. Keep the good work coming!!!
August 18th, 2012
This is lovely, but I do not know what it is. What type of flower.
August 18th, 2012
@carwyn3 It's apparently in the mallow family (a very large family!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abutilon my pic is just one abutilon flower on a small cutting given to Ray by a friend. It's a climbing plant but kind of semi hardy so have to be careful what aspect it has in the garden. Hope it will survive!

@gnilrets Thank you so much. I'll keep trying!
August 18th, 2012
@tishpics Yes, I thought it looked like a dress and I also used to have those books. The droplet was a bit of exceptional good luck!

Great macro, Hazel. Perfect timing with the drop.
August 18th, 2012
@purdey thanks - the timing was very lucky!!
August 18th, 2012
@pyrrhula Thank you for all your kind words - yes, I always try hard to seize the day and just live that day and not try to do yesterday and tomorrow at the same time!!
August 18th, 2012
What an amazing looking "abutilon". I've never seen anything like it. The timing of that water drop is impeccable.
August 18th, 2012
Beautiufl shot Hazel, love the colour, detail and droplet.
August 19th, 2012
@doblaine The little plant has been sitting in the garden in a little pot, then I saw one bud, then this amazing flower appeared - it is very macro, I should add. The droplet was also amazingly lucky!
August 19th, 2012
@dreams Karen, thank you for your comments - I'm starting to think I might print and frame this - if I can find a wall to put it on"
August 19th, 2012
This is beautiful, with the added bonus of the raindrop ready to fall. Very nice !
August 19th, 2012
@creativeamateur Paula, thanks, it's strange how the last minute ideas for shots often turn out to be the best.
August 19th, 2012
