What a night! Yesterday at bedtime, Jinks found an escape route out of the garden and went walkabout instead.
We all spent ages with torches trying to find him before we finally admitted he had gone and we still have no idea how he escaped.
Then we did a search in the neighbourhood on foot/in the car/ & put up some hastily made 'wanted' posters.
Just before 6 this morning, the phone rang: a couple going to work had found him in a street just off the main road. They got hold of him once but he got away.
So all's well that ends well and a bribe from Ray captured him. Another chap had seen Jinks over the fields but couldn't catch him.
Compunction, remorse - not in a dog's vocabulary, methinks.
He is naughty! When I think that he was out for 8 hours on the loose. When it does come to be time for another dog, I think I shall not feel like coping with another Cairn terrier.
Oh dear Hazel what a night you had.......I can imagine the panic & worry! It's the not knowing where they are, if they are frightened, in pain , been stolen etc......just the worst feeling! Had you had thunder or perhaps he felt it in the air ..or perhaps just having an adventure!! Funny time to choose at night!bet you were all so glad to see each other!,
What a nightmare!!! You and Ray must have been very frightened of the unknown and frantically searching and hoping to find him well and unharmed !! So glad that all turned out well in the end I can relate to this as we lost our last lake land terrier from a sat evening till Mon morning on a local wooded hill and was found the Mon morning by a man walking his dog -- he came home a very frightened little dog ,he slept the whole day after coming home !! ---but your dear JInks '
,looks so defiant and
Beryl, what a nightmare to lose your Lakeland terrier for that length of time. Jinks is fast asleep - wonder how many miles he walked....I'm just staying in today, have already been around the village and taken down the 'wanted' notices. Thanks for your concern.
No thunder - I just think Jinks is up for an adventure whenever! Going to have to keep him on the lead in the garden as we cannot find where he got out. It is quite a difficult garden to make safe for a dog.
Oh my ... that little rascal - he looks pretty innocent here though doesn't he! :) I am glad it all ended well. Now Cooper on the other hand, would go with anyone who found him ... and hopefully they would give him back :(
What a night you must have had. Poor you and poor Jinks. He doesn't appear to have any remorse though does he. That is a pretty defiant look. Probably can't see what all the fuss was about. You must be so relieved that he is okay.
It's a puzzle, unless he got into the stream but he hates water, although the level is very low in places. I think it was a certain corner of the garden where he has got out - twice - before but just when he was a puppy years ago.
I was more upset than i expected to be - how terrible for folk who have loved ones go missing in wartime and sometimes never know what happened. It made me stop and think.
Thanks so much for your comments and messages. What a huge relief it was to get the call that somebody had found Jinks. (Bit late to re-name him now!!!)
Oh bless!! I bet you didn't sleep!! Monty would have got in a right panic. Maybe it is the heat that has made him decide to go for a stroll. We've had some 'indoor toiletting' issues with Monty - really very unusual - never since he was a puppy.
The little horror, I didn't think dogs did cat things!! Mainly because they know what side their bread is buttered!!! Lol. A cat just thinks anyone will feed/ stroke/ love them, they don't know any better!! I'm so glad you got him back unscathed safe and sound, his photo just makes you think butter wouldn't melt!!
When the phone rings, it frightens Jinks and he does werewolf howling + sometimes lifts his leg indoors if I'm not there to answer the call. Interesting to hear about your granddad's Cairns. They do have a reputation and we've met lots of people who used to have one and loved them, but never got another one. One chap we met told us his Cairn just regularly bites him - I wouldn't stand for that.
Yes, it's been scary. Jinks escaped twice from our garden when a puppy and once from some friends' garden. But that was a long time ago. He just thought it was a huge game. The worst this time was it being dark - everything seems magnified at night I think.
Oh, I'm so sorry you had to go through all that! We have an indoor cat that pulled that same stunt before we left California... You want to just bean them...but are so glad to have them home! Glad that all ended well... (little bugger!)
Fav Photo so so glad you found Jinks what a great relief that some one else found jinks and phoned you poor you and Ray what you both went through , must admit love Louise comment In brackets lol.
Oh what a naughty dog but I'm glad you got him back safe and sound. You must have been going out of your mind with worry. Nice shot of the little scoundrel and a Fav. give him a big kiss from me
Hazel I know that scenario of escaped/lost dog well. Some years back our little cocker Spaniel escaped and we all spent an anxious evening looking for her. She was eventually found in the local pub happily supping a saucer of beer in the bar. Someone found her and phoned us. Great relief all round.
Thanks everyone for visits and comments. I'm so glad that this escapade is over and that we found Jinks. He's outside in the garden right now, tied up to the table where Ray is reading a book!
well didn't he take himself off on an adventure, you must have been worried sick!........my dog escaped me once.......we searched everywhere.....finally gave up and when home to find someone had tied him to the lampost outside our house, never knew who to thank!
Sandi, I sat and thought about this and realised that the dogs don't know where the garden ends and the big wide world begins but yes I agree they are curious!

Yep, he was, definitely - came in, had a drink of water and got a tennis ball to play with - no way!!!
Linda, funny thing is that out on the lead on a walk, Jinks always wants to go to people - but not when he has got his freedom, it seems.

I woldn't mind, but he lives the life of Riley here!
No contrition at all!
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts. I really started to think this was going to be an RIP post.

He's 12 , should know better?! It's on the lead in the garden now, shame but I don't deal v well with one-night-doggy- stands!!

Funny you should say that as a friend always says Jinks has cat-like tendencies!
Hardly any sleep last night so Jinks and I have been flat out off and on all day!

Rosie, thank you - I didn't know what to think which was the worst thing of all - had somebody taken him (fools!) etc etc....
thanks for your thoughts - definitely mixed emotions!
David, I think that takes the biscuit - well, saucer of beer. What a clever dog! Makes me feel slightly better about Jinks....

I think they are always in charge - aren't most dogs, come to think of it?!!!
It's a real sick in the stomach feeling isn't it - wondered if we wouold see him again..................
