Together with his wife, Sarah, Carwyn runs a guesthouse in the Mumbles which is where I met him. He was quite agreeable to participate in my strangers' project and we decided to tackle the photo first.
Carwyn is standing in front of the Welsh dresser in their breakfast room where he serves up delicious breakfasts: fruit smoothies, full English, eggs Benedict and other goodies too numerous to mention.
Apparently only 20% of the population of Wales now speak Welsh, Carwyn being an exception as he is a fluent speaker.
He joined the British Army in 2005 and served for seven years, including two tours of Afghanistan and a period of duty in the Falklands. He told me that he felt his time in the army had given him self-confidence.
He paused in his career to tackle a Masters in Emergency Response and Disaster Management and now serves with the reserves in Swansea. Around this time he met Sarah, who worked globally as a travel writer, and they made the decision to open a guesthouse and 'settle down'. Now she is a full-time mum to their two little boys.
When Carwyn is not cooking breakfasts, making beds or baking cakes to put in the guests' rooms on the tea tray, he leads expeditions for youngsters to far-flung places all over the world. He has also just been voted on to Mumbles Community Council and is immediately involved in two sub committees, for planning, and community development.
I admitted to feeling a little overawed by all these achievements. And then I discovered that Carwyn likes nothing more than a small siesta in the afternoon.....
And finally Carwyn disclosed that they have just secured an allotment quite close to the house. A little light digging in the afternoon maybe....... I wish them all the luck for the future.
you can 'visually' share just one breakfast here!
