This was the home of the 18th century naturalist, Gilbert White. In addition to an exhibition of his life and work, it houses The Oates Collection telling the story of Frank Oates, a Victorian explorer, and Captain Lawrence Oates who accompanied Captain Scott to the South Pole (1911-1912).
It's possible to see a short film 'Ninety Degrees South' made by Herbert Ponting, the official photographer on the expedition who had an early cinematographic camera. He also made some 1,700 photographic plates. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Ponting
A jaw dropper piece of real estate. Truly magnificent architecture & capture. A property to admire, hope you enjoyed being in the midst of such beauty & being able to take a minute piece of it with you.
Thanks Gerry - hope you are fine?
That's the X20 for you! Glad you like your Fuji!
The Oates Collection is really good, especially the room on the trip to the South Pole.
It apparently started out much more modestly than this with additions being made over the centuries. Could have been a project for you two?!
