These photos are all from an old album my father gave me. So I assume at least some of these folk are my ancestors. But my dad could not identify any of them for me. So I'll always be left wondering whether those two ladies had really just been up in that little plane, whether those chaps are recruits and in which war, whether that's a shot of bride, groom and bridesmaid on the right. I like the be-whiskered old 'Suffolk' boy, probably in his back garden. And what a smart lady, wonder where she's going?
If anybody has any idea of the context of any shot I'd of course be interested.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
great collage Hazel...there is nothing like old photos but don't you wish people would write on the back of them? But I guess we are all guilty of that, we always assume we won't forget who they are, not thinking that one day we won't be there.
@winshez These were stuck firmly onto the black pages of a small photo album so I had to scan them still on the pages. No chance of reading anything that might have been written on the back of them! I totally agree with what you say and have labelled carefully all my family photos that I've scanned and kept on the computer.
Great selection of ancient photographs and the air of mystery has its fun side. I suspect that young woman has just seen the handsome pilot who landed the plane and is having a touch of the vapours!
What a shame! I have an enormous collection of family pictures. Both sides of the family were fascinated with photography from the time it was invented and my one great grandfather had a bakery opposite to a professional photographer's. As there were seven in the family there was always someone who would pose for innovative shots in exchange for a picture! Perhaps I am lucky but i know the names and relationships of everyone in them.
@w3n6y You are really lucky in that. I only managed to identify one photo from the album with the help of my Auntie Betty who is now 87. It was a photo of her family that she remembered being taken but had never seen. She was aged about 6 on it! She was overjoyed to see it.
