The existing mill was rebuilt in 1744 and has been milling grain since it was further restored in 2004. Ray, the chief breadmaker in our family, bought a bag of wholemeal flour.
I realised I'd captured, on the mill wall, the shadow of the public house opposite in the afternoon sun. The shot was taken through the pillars of the bridge over the river.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
@cabawg Anne, thank you for stopping by and for comments. I did a double take when I saw your name as I have a very good friend also called Anne Gibson.
Beautiful mellow brickwork contrasting with restless tumbling water. Just lovely Hazel - and bonus pub shadow into the bargain! I agree with Anne, it all adds to the image.
@tishpics Thank you so much. I have to confess that I only saw the shadow afterwards - and there I was thinking that I had a really well trained 365 eye!
@gemtumble I took a few shots of the mill race at close quarters down in the 'bowels' of the mill but they turned out just to be a white-out because it was moving so fast.
@katillac Thank you - I learned things I did not know such as the water mill was originally one of six around this location of the city wall in Winchester. It nearly got demolished in 1928 but a group of benefactors stepped in and bought it.
