This swan suddenly appeared on the carriageway. I'm grabbing the camera out of its case; Ray is starting to be concerned about the cars; the swan is ambling slowly across the road.
Result: a feeble shot which I've played with in Picasa, mainly in 'orton-ish'.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
No, not in view but on our first day we found the pair of swans I posted with their small cygnets on a nearby stream so guess that there were others. This is Romney Marshes: flat countryside, lots of sheep, other wildlife and wind turbines!
Still a Fav photo Hazel from the Car too will you be going on the 28th ? Anne will be coming with me hope you and Ray are both well and Jinks and you had a lovely Holiday.
Yes Hazel, Apparently any dead swan has to be reported, not eaten, although there is some question whether there is a blanket ban on eating them or if it only applies to the mute swans - the big white ones endemic to the UK, which are considered to be the Queen's property. There was a reported case a few years ago when Sir Peter Maxwell Davis, Master of the Queen's Music, took home a swan which had died when it became entangled in power lines, but he was visited by the police who warned him that he could face prosecution if he ate it.
@gerry glad you are thinking of going Gerry......would have loved to have met you but think I will have to bow out of this one........gall bladder trouble but I will be raring to go on the next one in September!
Sorry Hazel for using your post.......I can just imagine the scrabble for the camera.....great capture & it's amazingly clear for a quick one!

A lucky capture with your camera handy I have mine in my hand usual when out in the car don't want to miss anything.( Last week I managed to get a few shots of a citizens arrest whilst out shopping)
Now come on Gerry, I know you are not 80!!!!!!!! (Excuse me!)
We are also away the same time in September - in Topsham, near Exeter. Yes we look forward to catching up!
Crazy swan! Me and a few others had to avert a rush hour disaster of mummy duck crossing a very complex junction with 10 ducklings last week. All saved!

Think my excitement was disproportionate to the event - but had never seen a swan crossing the road before!

Is that true - about eating swans? I know royalty used to indulge!
Ruby, thanks for the fav and I like your reasons for giving it!
Hi Gerry, I don't know anything about 28th? We had a great week, thank you, lots of interesting places to visit and sunny weather.
No Swan Lake then for the Master of the Queen's Music?! Thank you for the info.
Gerry, thanks for the info but not possible for me - far too busy and stressful. Have a good time!
Aw, shucks, think that was what I was trying to think of!!
