...because he can at least go for a walk now without the lampshade collar. Post-op check was good yesterday and stitches out next Wed.
It was funny: I've been hand feeding him so as not to have the hassle of taking off the collar and putting it back on. Yesterday I decided to take it off, put his bowl of meal down and he just looked at me as if to say 'Well, aren't you going to feed me then?'
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Good to see Jinks smiling. He cottoned on to this VIP treatment pretty quick didn't he. :)
Hope he doesn't do the same with his stitches as the dog of a friend of mine did.
Sammy (my friends dog) had the little boy dog op a while ago and to make sure he didn't play or lick at the stitches she put a tee shirt on him and held it in place with a rubber band. After a few days she thought it was safe to take it off him at night and in the morning she woke up to see that Sammy's stitches had disappeared. That was the day he was supposed to return to the vet to have them removed. He had unpicked them himself though. The wound had healed and the vet said to just make sure the stitches came out the other end, as he had swallowed them. So she had to keep an eye on his poo for a couple of days.
Haha, It sounds like Jinks likes the idea of being hand fed. It is good that you could keep the lampshade collar on him. We had to put one on Spud once. It lasted less than a day.
Babs, that's an amazing story - but it does re-inforce my view that Jinks will keep this lampshade collar until he gets his stitches out. We just take it off for walks and food now but make sure he's on the lead until we put it back on. On a previous occasion I mistakenly took off the lead and the collar and Jinks hid under the table. Neil got his finger nipped helping me get him out. (thank goodness Jinks is not an alsatian or anything else big!!!)
