Barbara is a volunteer outdoor guide at Mottisfont Abbey, a National Trust property. She greeted us as we walked along from the main entrance and we soon got into conversation.
She seemed a bit surprised by my request for a photo but agreed and suggested using the background of green hedge opposite.
In addition to her volunteering duties looking after visitors, Barbara enjoys tennis and creative writing, mostly about events in the community and recently had a piece published in the local newspaper, The Romsey Advertiser.
And then she added that she also has a lovely husband who works a a guide too and who, that afternoon, was driving the buggy which takes folk with mobility problems between different locations in the grounds of Mottisfont.
I've learnt from this project that people can be a little surprised to realise that I want to photograph them personally but then quickly participate and help me set up the photo.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Come, join in! I'm not brave at all, have asked strangers for portraits before I started this project and only been refused once, by a chap who wanted me to join Greenpeace: I said no thank you to that and he said no thank you to my request!!!

@happypat@quietpurplehaze thanks for the name check Pat and Haze. You would be good at strangers Pat , you are a friendly lady and I imagine you get on well with everyone (you do on here :) ) It is not difficult and you already do it to a certain extent when you share images of your B&B guests :)
I am sure barbara will be pleased with her shot Haze
Pat, why not do just one portrait - and then like me you'll probably be hooked! I nearly didn't start when I saw Phil's project because of the enormity of thinking of 100 strangers but I just pace myself and concentrate on each opportunity.
@quietpurplehaze Yes I would have a try out first, think the secret is to get into some sort of conversation to start with then gradually feel the atmosphere if they would be ready for a portrait...could start with the B&B's ! No portrait no breakfast!

It would be nice if you found the time to join in perhaps out of season, Pat.......
