We were coming down the stone steps to the exit from Yarmouth Castle when we thought we heard a full ladies' choir singing beautifully. Rather puzzled, we turned the corner at the bottom of the steps to find just these four ladies - Joani, Maggie, Helen, Su - singing their hearts out under the archway.
They were happy to have their photo taken and I'm just about to send it to them via email. Hailing from Oxfordshire, they were on the Isle of Wight to give a concert the previous evening to the elderly residents of Northbrook House. They have all sung in amateur dramatics and Helen also plays the piano, when it's convenient.
On the day that we met them they were touring the island finding 'daft places' to sing, the entrance to Yarmouth Castle being their '10th daft place'!
I always find portraits of more than one person more difficult than solo portraits and here I can see that I have the light a bit wrong because Su, on the right is standing more in the light from the entrance. I have admiration for professional portrait photographers who can assemble a group of folk and take a shot with everybody looking just right. However, it was a pleasure to meet these ladies with their joy in singing.
