“Down a pint”…

Life returns to a routine: Clare “took a half-day” and drove Grace to the nearest Metrolink station and it was a morning in classes for me. After going to the gym, I went to our church where the regional Red Cross blood drive was being held. When I came out of the parish hall, I noticed this flower head with a “hole” in the center… [I stopped keeping track of my lifetime blood donations many years ago, after reaching 10 gallons (80 pints).]

[It was a very long day for Grace, but she did get home eventually. Thanks for picking her up, Jen! And a “Happy Birthday!” to my “baby brother” — #50!

Flower ID: Glandularia canadensis.

From Missouri Botanical Garden, http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=287505&isprofile=0& » “For many years, Glandularia canadensis was known as ‘Verbena canadensis.’ Many prestigious authorities (e.g., The Royal Horticultural Society) still list the plant as ‘Verbena canadensis.’ The revised edition of Steyermark's Flora of Missouri (Yatskievych and Turner) now lists the plant as Glandularia canadensis. Glandularia is considered by many authorities to be a genus that is separate and distinct from Verbena based upon a number of factors including plant morphology, chromosome number, style length, reproductive modes and ploidal levels (see Umber, The Genus Glandularia (Verbenaceae) in North America, 1979).”

Glad to see you're a blood donor! Wish more people would do the same. I love the deeper purple inside the lighter shades on the outside - very pretty shot!
