Spotted Cucumber Beetle on Petunia

Sorry — more purple! Another busy day on campus with few frames shot. Identifying this little pest, “Diabrotica undecimpunctata,” was pretty easy. From BugGuide.net, http://bugguide.net/node/view/456#body » “Considered a major pest of many field crops including cucumbers and other squashes, corn, soy. Beetles also transmit crop diseases such as bacterial wilt. Adults also reported damaging to garden plants including hibiscus, roses.” I had posted an image there earlier this summer — http://bugguide.net/node/view/680406 — on our rose bush. [National Wildlife Federation Field Guide to Insects and Spiders of North America: page 209, Carolyn! ;) ]

Happy Birthday to Larry, my [younger] brother, today!
