Garden snail shell under Ott-Lite®

Check the time stamp and you’ll know that this image has “desperation” written all over it! However, it was a process of experimentation.

On our last trip to Michigan, I noticed that Clare’s mom had an Ott-Lite, which I recall some 365 folks mentioned as producing light that is quite white and therefore helpful in photography. (Think photo boxes, for example.) Dad had bought it and Mom doesn’t use it, so it came home with me and this is my first shot with the Ott-Lite.

The snail is probably about 9 mm from left-to-right in the image. I used one or more close-up filters to get ridiculously close and produce a very shallow field of focus. (It’s 9mm or less from front-to-back as well and the far side is blurry.) [Magnify] and remember that this is less than a centimeter across!

[P.S. Future desperation shot: the Ott-Lite!

@vickisfotos A loose piece of posterboard and a good light. I've posted several with this setup … and usually “late in the ‘day’”…
