There is an area of mathematics known as “projective geometry” “dealing with the properties and invariants of geometric figures under projection” — http://mathworld.wolfram.com/ProjectiveGeometry.html — some of which I studied as a graduate student in economics (with emphasis on the “invariants”). I suppose partially for this reason I have long been fascinated by the shadows of objects that are cast into corners like this.
