Didn’t know what this was, but it was quite preoccupied with whatever-it-was it was doing, so I was able to snap enough frames to get one in decent focus.

I *think* this may be a “bot fly” in the genus “Gasterophilus”. [Blah-blah-blah from original post deleted as wrong-wrong-wrong. I was only correct as far as the “order,” Diptera. Sigh. But this is why we use the experts at the other web sites, right?!?]

Apparently this is a female in the genus “Delia” (the family of “Root-Maggot Flies” (“Anthomyiidae”) in the super-family Muscoidea); see the post, http://bugguide.net/node/view/934070
