Homemade lobster bisque.
Depending on who you ask, Raymond made the “mistake” many years ago of preparing this for the fish course for a meal shared with us (probably another Christmas Eve). He repeated it a time or two and now he [almost?] dare not leave it off the menu for Clare's birthday and Christmas Eve.
I *think* this is:
• our 25th Christmas Eve with Raymond (1990 = #1) and
• our 24th Christmas Eve with Raymond & Jeanne (1991 = #1 with Beef Wellington).
The croissant is not homemade, but who notices when the soup is a little bit o’ heaven in a bowl?
You can find the recipe yourself:
• page 187 of [the original] Joy of Cooking (Rombauer & Becker, Bobbs-Merrill). We have the sixth printing of the 1975 edition.
• pages 112–113 of [the All New] Joy of Cooking (Rombauer, Becker & Becker, Scribner). We have the 1997 edition.
We missed having Jenny & her husband and Grace's fiance … but we enjoyed the meal nevertheless:
• “Attitude adjustment”: Nor’easter (from Jenny & Steve's reception —

• Soup: Lobster bisque (and croissant)
• Salad: Green salad with Citrus and toasted walnut salad with Irish Mist vinaigrette
• Palate cleanser: Lime sherbet with crème de menthe and fresh mint
• Entree: Beef of grenadine, Dr. Schnitt with mixed rice — and George de Latour
• Dessert: Grand Marnier soufflé with cream sauce
• After dinner: Anno Domini —
