House fly or Blow fly? by rhoing

House fly or Blow fly?

There are *so* many species of flies, even in the family of “House flies and their kin,”
and “Blow flies” (Bluebottle and Greenbottle Flies),
» http://bugguide.net/node/view/7175
I was initially discouraged to identify this insect. But after a bit of field guide and online research, I'm hopeful I at least have the family right (as a House fly), but possibly not.

Nope. Confirmed at BugGuide as genus Licilia, in the Calliphoridae family (Blow flies); http://bugguide.net/node/view/1167490
Species is either Lucilia cuprina or L. sericata. From BugGuide, https://bugguide.net/node/view/1475613 » “Ranges of Lucilia cuprina and sericata overlap in southern United States. Both species have three postsutural acrostichals and a pale basicosta. Usually cuprina is a coppery color (hence the name) and sericata is green. Eyes of male cuprina are more widely spaced.” Okay...

As I am more-than-a-bit discouraged by my neck-and-back situation (“C6” seems to be the culprit), Clare encouraged me to take a walk this afternoon. Walking is about the only exercise my physical therapist offered when I asked what I could *do*. Sigh…
