“He who hesitates…”

I was in the Greenhouse 4 days ago and posted here a photo of Miniature coconut palm leaves, http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2016-02-26 I also photographed a single leaf and I only left the single-leaf image for botanist-Dan to confirm as “Lytocaryum weddellianum.”

Dan discovered — as I did — that my “leaf and leaflets” photo — http://phytoimages.siu.edu/imgs/paraman1/r/Arecaceae_Lytocaryum_weddellianum_108414.html — was the first image of this plant species in PhytoImages. So what did we both do? We both went to the Greenhouse today to get more photos!

Dan had his photos before I could process-and-submit mine, of which this was one. I think this is the first time this has happened. Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, but definitely humorous!

You can tell from this photo that it's the same plant Dan photographed — http://phytoimages.siu.edu/imgs/paraman1/r/Arecaceae_Lytocaryum_weddellianum_108415.html — from the base of the palm stem, the “adventitious roots,” right down to the little, green-leafed plant just popping out of the soil!

Greenhouse visit was short: left my reading glasses at home. I could use the “dioptric adjustment knob” on my camera — http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-10-23 — but that doesn't help me evaluate each image on the LCD panel. So I shot 20ish images and left. I suppose I'm just glad I didn't invest more time trying to get more images of the Miniature coconut palm for PhytoImages! (Also: didn't have the right lens as this was about as far away from the plant as I could get with the 60mm macro lens.)

Interesting! I've never heard of PhytoImages, though I've heard of a similar site for birds.
