Cutting vegetables … and a quandary

More than six years ago, I got a cut on my scalp and had a tough time deciding what to do. Today Clare cut a finger while we were preparing dinner and faced a different, but in many ways similar decision. The urgent/prompt care clinic has closed; there are still heightened public safety protocols at the emergency room; and she will wait for hours, probably, before a kitchen cut gets stitched up at the ER. So we’ve bandaged it up and proceeded with dinner.

Sad. There was a time when you could call your doctor's office and they would work you in that day, and tell you what to do in the meantime. No more! What the heck happened to that?!!

I hope she is okay. A friend injured her finger and went to the ER. They did almost nothing. Weeks later, it still hurt so she went to a hand specialist. She has to wrap it for the next 6 weeks. There was still debris in her finger from the injury and tendon damage! Shame on that ER! There is a stand-alone ER affilited with a nearby hospital that I had the unfortunate circumstances to use a few months ago and they were excellent.

@danette Shame on that ER, indeed; yikes!
Five days later, Clare & I didn't like how the cut looked, so she went to our prompt care clinic. Apparently the critical period for a cut or laceration is the first 24 hours. Five days later was not a time to stitch it or glue it or anything else. A lesson, I guess. :-\
