‘29’ And Holding

This is a monument in the cemetery where Clare’s dad is buried, so we visit the cemetery frequently when we visit her mom. I have noticed this monument before, but today I noticed more.

Previously, I only noticed the divided household: the University of Michigan logo and “Go Blue!” on the left and the Ohio State University logo and “Go Bucks!” on the right. Whew; that must have been an interesting household, particularly on fall Saturdays, especially a particular one in November! But I digress.

This time I noticed “‘29’ And Holding” … the dates, no birth year for Paula, … and the number below the wedding rings.

It was easy to find an online obituary, which begins “Paula S. Welty, of Fremont, OH, who was 29 and holding, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014… She was born in Tiffin, OH… She was a graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School.” No dates! » Obituary

I wrestled a bit with whether this post is inappropriate, but the obvious humor in the family was probably intended to be an attention-getter, so I’m going with it.
