Casablanca @Casablanca mentioned that she was going to take part in the 30 Days Wild 2018 activity in the UK. It sounded interesting so this is the first in an attempted Aussie winter series of 30 Days Wild 2018. Hopefully there will be 30 interesting winter finds....
Oh well done, what fun! A kookaburra? (I think the tag is 30dayswild2018) That will be brilliant to have Aussie Winter June shots too. Looking forward to your pictures!
@casablanca Hi Casablanca - I'll change the tag, I hadn't realized there was a properly designated one. This is a kookaburra and luckily he wasn't looking in the right place. There is a lovely big red-bellied black that lives in the dam just near him (Zoe found him yesterday!) so I'm going to try to catch a photo of him for today's shot. Mind you, I don't know why he's even awake - it's been in the negative degrees the last few nights - he should be hibernating. Cheers Rob
@golftragic I quite like them up here - don't like them at all on the Gold Coast. Too many people feed them at picnic areas - they become quite aggressive. Scary with that big beak....
@robz You're right, of course. Like most wildlife, they're best left being wild and natural. When I was on the farm a young emu decided to adopt us, quite fun when he was young, but after he pubed he was a menace. Quite funny to see him humping the saw-bench though.
Great to have you joining in - I may learn a little more about nature in Australian. 30 Days Wild is an annual think in the UK now, organised by one of our Wildlife and Conservation charities. Here's the thread I posted with a little more info - https://365project.org/discuss/general/31601/30-days-wild-2018 - though there aren't really any rules - just get outside for a little bit of time each day!
@roachling Thanks Louise - I didn't realize it was a designated 365 activity. It should be a very interesting month. I'll check out your post - thanks for letting me know!
