Rook by rosiekind

Rook

I wasn't sure whether this was a rook or a crow at first because it was on its own, I thought it might be a crow. However, I've looked on RSPB website and I think it's a rook due to the beak. If I'm wrong, please let me know
According to the RSPB website arook's beak is black/dark grey, but in your photo it looks yellow/grey. But no other birds match it. There is a saying the if it's one rook it's a crow, and if there are lots of crows they are rooks - but it isn't infallible!

This is definitely a Rook and a nice shot to,Rosie have you a got a Collins bird guide? I poicked one up a few months ago and I have found it very good for ID.

@janturnbull One on its own is why I thought initially it was a crow but Martin has confirmed that I was right in thinking this is a rook.
@esox I've got bird books in the house but not the Collins one. I should have looked at my book rather than websites! The web does make you a bit lazy because all I needed was to pull it down from the shelf and take a look. The book I have is aptly titled: Photographic Guide to the birds of Britain & Europe

@janturnbull My book actually says the odd rook may give the wrong impression and the rook is distinguishable by its pale bare area where the beak joins the feathering. Long evenly tapering bill is also mentioned so I think this is definitely a rook but thanks for trying to put me right because I don't always get it right but I'm improving thanks to 365!

@busylady @tishpics Thanks
@tomsde Yes Thomas ours do and this is why I knew that this bird is a rook because of the colour and shape of his beak. Thanks for your kind comment
