Detail from the Pallas-Athene-Fountain which is situated in front of Austria’s Parliament building. The fountain was erected between 1893 and 1902. In the middle is a water-basin and a richly decorated base. These two figures are allegorical representations of the rivers Danube and Inn, two of the four most important rivers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The other two, the Elbe and Moldau are represented in the back part of the structure. The 4 figures are dominated by the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena standing on a pillar, dressed in armor with a gilded helmet. The fountain is further decorated with other figures. Have tinted and darkened the background in order to bring out further the beauty of these sculptures.
