First full day in Gozo – Saturday , 24th October. The centre of Rabat in Gozo has some lovely narrow streets that sell anything but mostly souvenirs. Roaming around the shops in these streets is a must for those who visit Gozo. The name Rabat comes from the time Malta was under Arab rule between 870 and 1091. The name means suburb and Rabat was the suburb of the Cittadella (or as it is also known ‘Il Castello’). There is a town named Rabat in Malta, too, and this is the suburb of the former capital city of Malta, Mdina which in Arabic is Medina meaning city. During colonial times, the British changed Rabat (of Gozo)’s name to Victoria for Queen Victoria but among all Maltese the original name of Rabat still holds.
Joke: A nerd in Gozo got off his bike to walk through the narrow streets of Rabat when his friend, another nerd, walked up pushing an incredible shiny new bicycle.
The first nerd was stunned by his friend's shiny bike and asked, "WOW! Where did you get such a nice bike?"
The second nerd replied, "Well, yesterday I was walking home, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up to me on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, 'Take what you want!'"
The second nerd nodded approvingly, "Good choice. The clothes probably wouldn't have fit."
Thank you very much for looking and for all the lovely comments, the fav's and for helping my picture reach tp and pp. Very much appreciated.
Wonderful -- a tourist's paradise !! I love the narrow streets full of all kind of merchandise to attract and appeal and of course ,the cafes and ot door tables !
Great collage of the streets pic.`s Sorry they won`t sell me anything. Never buy souvenirs. And I prefer the small streets beside the main street, They have often the nicest art and galleries shops.
Great in black, lovely capture. Looks like heaps of fun Fav.
