July 4, 1776 The Declaration of Independence was ratified. It started....
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...”
87 years later President Lincoln wrote:
“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”
In 1883, Emma Lazarus wrote a sonnet to raise money for a pedestal for the statue that was given to us by France. It contains this famous line: “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”
We have to take care of each other. The whole quote is quite beautiful as is she. Thank you for the reminder that we have the power to do the right thing.
Thank you. Someday I hope that we live up to the words on the Statue of Liberty and the words in the Declaration of Independence.
