a state of lacking money; having little or no money; penniless; poor.
i took the day off today to be with our two grandsons. how the boys have grown but they are still the same sweet boys who used to stay with me all the time. little Darren is no longer little; here he is, sporting a "side Mohawk" hair style. he will be nine next month and he's invited partner grandpa and me to his birthday party. actually, it was the mother who invited partner and me, seemingly because the boy actually asked if we could be invited.
partner had to work though so he took us first to the filipino restaurant where the boys like to have breakfast ("just like old times" they said) then he made a few deliveries before picking us up from the restaurant and giving us a ride downtown. i took the boys on a sightseeing tour all three-hours and a half. they didn't want to go for the boat tour afterwards as they were getting hungry, so we went to our favourite sushi restaurant and we had sushi. i was amazed they now know how to use chopsticks properly. am i so proud of them.
they were itching to go "home" to our apartments where they just indulged themselves with their laptops and game console while we waited for grandpa for supper and to take them back to their mother.
at one point, darren left his games and sat beside me on the floor. he asked what i was doing and he saw me reading the 'mad minute word' posting. he slowly pronounced "impecuniousness" and we laughed when he stammered several times trying to pronounce it without making a mistake. i told him what it meant and asked him how i should photograph the word. he stood up, pulled out his empty pockets and made this face. a smart boy and a good actor, my boy darren.
I do like to hear when children enquire and want to hear the answer! This was a great pose for the word. He just might be an actor! You did plan your day well!
