autumn leaves by summerfield

autumn leaves

we have a photo competition at work which closes on thursday, october 24th, which could end up as the firm's e-holiday card for canada. last year's winner were of red berries with snow piled thick on them. i have similar photographs, but i don't want to look like i'm a copy cat, so i'm strongly thinking of submitting this one. i think this is more canadian and "neutral looking" for a holiday card, do you not think so? i'm also considering submitting either of these previous posts:

entries will be accompanied with a 30-word paragraph stating what the season means to me. what do you think, folks?

thank you for your kind views and comments; know that they are so much appreciated. but i must retire. i'll see you tomorrow and will continue to catch up then.
I think this is easily the strongest image of the four, which shows how much you've improved, but I'm not really familiar with the concept of holiday cards. Is it supposed to reflect Canada,or the season, or both?

The colour is amazing, love the focus and the soft background. I think it would make a lovely card. Of the other three, I think I like the shot of the holly taken on 6 January best for a card

I love this one and also think it is the strongest. The colours and dof are wonderful and it would make a great cheery colourful card.

Oh goodness this is so difficult Vikki; I love this shot, it is so vibrant but would it be chosen as a holiday card, by which do you mean Christmas? The leaf is very patriotic for sure but it is not overly festive but then maybe that is good, keeps it more generic as in 'Happy Holidays'
This is not helpful at all is it. The other three shots whilst nice, to me are not card worthy. Whereas I would make this one into a card. You are excellent at the narrative too, so my guess is you could present this card with an excellent paragraph and that is what will convince them to use it.

This should be a winner.

My personal choice would be this one, it is a beautiful photo, the colours are stunning, it would make a great card. Out of the other 3 I would choose the holly berries, 6th Jan.

@dh - thank you, d. the photo has to reflect both the season and Canada (but that the photo may have been taken anytime of the year, which is kind of confusing and which is why i'm strongly considering submitting this shot).

@salza - thank you, sally. i think so, too.

@sturnus - thank you, carol. i appreciate your input.

@claireuk - yes, 'happy holidays' is what we're supposed to be going for. we are, after all, a very diverse and multi-cultural country so gotta please everyone so nobody feels excluded. times are so tough now! thank you, claire.

@cdonohoue - aww. cathy, thank you.

@678tabby - thank you, june, much appreciated.

thank you, kind ladies, for your kind input. as explained to my friend claire above, the card would be for 'holiday' sending, which means Christmas, hannukah, and all other festivities happening around this time. as Canada is comprised of immigrants from all over the world, the idea of one card is for it to be all-inclusive. canada i guess is the only place where you can complain about a Christmas tree in december so it would have to be called a 'holiday tree', kind of ridiculous (with all due apologies to my friends who aren't Christians) because exactly why we have this festivity is because of the commercialization of the Christmas season. but we're not going into that delicate subject matter.

so my thinking is i will submit this shot, along with another holly from the batch of the holly photo posted January 6, and an evening shot of some Christmas light displays or a photo of a red and white poinsettas from the garden i visit frequently.

again, thank you, my good friends.
