peek-a-boo! by summerfield

peek-a-boo!

with some encouragement from partner when he found out this week's theme is 'hair', i attempted to do rim-lighting shots of my hair. or what's left of my hair. or what amounts to rim-lighting. yup! major fail. the white background was a desperate attempt to not fail. and partner-director-husband-driver-dictator is happy with this. he thinks i am star photographer. yes, dear, now be quiet.

there was a time in high school and in college when i grew my hair below the waist then cut it and sell it. i had very thick straight hair and for some reasons soft and shiny. no one believed i grew up using laundry detergent powder to wash my hair because we were so poor there was nothing else to use. when i was being groomed by a designer to join the miss philippines contest, he adamantly forbade me to tell people i used 'tide' as shampoo. he cringed at that fact and couldn't believe it. now i use a fifteen-dollar shampoo and equally-expensive conditioner it's kind of sickening. and still my hair continues to fall off.

in grade school, we had a field demonstration every year. the one year i was permitted to join (my cousin gave me her used costumes so we didn't have to spend anything) my mother let our neighbour's teenaged daughter do my hair. she curled my hair using some twigs and beer. yes, beer! it is a good perm agent. when she took off the twigs my hair was all curly i looked like an aeta. i got a good teasing from my classmates. if i wasn't wearing a filipina dress and had make-up on, i'd have decked everyone. good thing my partner was a well-mannered boy and he assured me i looked alright. my father had the nerve to take my picture even though he himself couldn't control his laughing. you can bet those photos had been destroyed a long time ago. i should have kept one for posterity. but it's all just memories now.
Your story was delightful as usual!, I so,enjoyed reading every word! Hair, light good, too btw! I hope your relations are Ok after the hurricane.?

I love this shot, I really like the lighting around your hair, looks terrific. I remember using beer to rinse my hair when I was younger, I used to get my dad to leave a little bit in a bottle for me, he thought it was a waste of beer but I insisted it was good for my hair, I also used to use vinegar on my hair at times too, think I was told this would make it shine, lol
