for the mad hatters' seven deadly sins theme this week.
i'm pretty sure you've seen a similar scenario at some point in your life. i see this all the time at the office. girl #1 comes in one morning, excited and almost beside herself. goes immediately to girl #2 who she lunches with everyday, shops with every payday, etc. they both have boyfriends, and sometimes they would go on a foursome, be it dining out, going to the movie, weekends at the cottage, even vacations to mexico or to jamaica. the other girls hear the commotion, gets excited, congratulations all around. girl #2 who is perhaps older and has been going out with her boyfriend for longer than forever, smiles, pretends to be excited but you can see in her eyes, her disappointment, her envy, perhaps even anger.
girl #1 goes around the office showing off the big rock on her finger as she recites a litany of plans for the wedding, etc. etc. then people start to ask girl #2, "what about you? when is so-and-so going to propose. tell him it's taking him so long." or "did you see the size of her rock? that's humongous!!!" girl #2 says, well, what so-and-so and i were looking at is a lot bigger than that. so girl #1 says, "i don't care, at least i'm engaged!"
so girl #2 later on calls her boyfriend so-and-so. "such-and-such got engaged last night. did you know about it?" she listens. "well, you know i've been waiting." she hangs up the phone.
she bravely puts on a smile and joins in the excitement. but so many things go through her mind, surely.
this story is a composite of ten thousand stories of people i know. any similarity to one particular incident is merely coincidence. tee-hee! i hope i don't get in trouble for this. and that ring isn't mine, it's not even the same as the ring on the finger.
Love the photo and story! This is like my stepdaughter who is witnessing everyone getting engaged and married around her, still waiting for her man to do the deed and propose!
LOL this reminds me of a shot I have from my wedding day. My sisters, sister-in-law and maid of honor are all looking at me and smiling but the last bridesmaid is scowling at the camera! Just a tad bit jealous!! But I didn't flaunt anything in front of her like that. It was just how she felt no matter what. Oh well! Great job in playing both parts for this shot!!
OH yes...that is an age old story! As old as...well, as old as they have been giving out diamond rings for engagement and I am sure longer. haha Excellent work!
