empty chair at empty table by summerfield

empty chair at empty table

i watched an old les miserables anniversary concert and the songs from the play were just incredibly beautiful. "empty chairs at empty tables" never left my head since. i so love the lyrics of the song, too, i looked it up and i found a solo piano rendition, which thankfully gave me an idea on how to present the pink piano to you. so here it is. i'd have loved to have a cap but i have none at home that is suitable. fortunately one (or two) of the flags i collected at the races some months ago was a french flag.

There's a grief that can't be spoken.
There's a pain goes on and on.
Empty chairs at empty tables
Now my friends are dead and gone.

Here they talked of revolution.
Here it was they lit the flame.
Here they sang about tomorrow
And tomorrow never came.

From the table in the corner
They could see a world reborn
And they rose with voices ringing
And I can hear them now!
The very words that they had sung
Became their last communion
On this lonely barricade at dawn.

Oh my friends, my friends forgive me
That I live and you are gone.
There's a grief that can't be spoken.
There's a pain goes on and on.

Phantom faces at the windows.
Phantom shadows on the floor.
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friends will meet no more.

Oh my friends, my friends, don't ask me
What your sacrifice was for
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friends will sing no more

still sick, the meds are just kicking in now - after three days. i went to the office today but went home early as my cough was really bugging me.

thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated.
Love the lighting. Sorry you are still not better. Hopefully the meds will now do there job and you'll be right as rain shortly.

Glad you are getting better but being sick hasn't seemed to slow down your creativity a bit! Terrific image!

I'm listening to the piano while reading this very sad poem - it must apply to the 2nd world war! Thanks for the experience!

Love this Vikki and your comments. When my eldest grandson was 12 he played Gavroche in the school production of Les Mis the reast of the cast were 16 -18. For Christmas that year his present from me was. Theatre break to London where we stayed in a hotel, had a meal out and alimo to the theatre to see Les Mis. It was brilliant.

great image. Did you use light painting to light the lamp?
I got Les Mis from the library just about two or three weeks ago, the 2010 version. I could only watch about 20 minutes of it. I have never liked musicals.

Just read the narrative below the lyrics, glad the meds are working now.

@bill_fe - the lamp is a real LED lamp. i used light painting on the piano and the flag. thank you, billy. if you can't watch it then you should read the book - it's awesome!

My goodness your little pink piano is well versed in music!

@summerfield I got that too not too long ago. It's too long. I wouldn't be able to spend any time here.

Such poignancy in this photo image... A very beautifully staged and solemn tribute. Long ago, before the musical came to the stage, I bought an early edition of Le Miz...Bill's right, it IS long! Also, years ago, when we bought our first CD player for the twlevision, the first CD I bought was a compilation of Le Miz performed around the world...It was magnificent! Might just get it out again...

@Weezilou - if you have the 10th anniversary concert, eponine was played by leah salonga, one of the best stage performers. my little boy was so in love with her back in the old country and i had to shell out for special tickets for her easter show. got a bunch of photos. can't believe how she's grown and how good she really is. later she played fantine. but i saw a clip from one of the tv shows where she guested and she sang this song, empty chairs and empty tables, wow! thank you, louise.
