the dog fountain by summerfield

the dog fountain

halfway through the morning, i realized i ran out of raw nuts so i made an impromptu decision to dash downtown to the st. lawrence market. on the way, i passed by the front street square where this dog fountain is situated. too many people, i guess they're trying to make the most of the good weather as it's not as cold unlike the last couple of days.

speaking of dogs. this morning on my walk, a big aggressive dog jumped at me. i tried to avoid it but either side of the pavement was muddy and i tried to maintain my balance. the man walking the dog had his phone in front of him like he was taking a selfie, smiling at the phone and oblivious to the dog. i yelled stop at the dog and the man just pulled the leash rather slightly and told the dog "no" but continuing to look at his phone. i yelled at him telling him to rein in his dog, he apologized, still with his eyes on his phone. i seldom ever swear but as the dog pounced on me, i said the f word rather loudly. the man kept pulling the leash but it was an extendable leash so as he pulled, the leash just got longer. i called him all sorts of names, even told him "you son of a wh**e, get your f***ing dog off me". that was the only time he looked at me and kept saying 'sorry' to me and 'no' to the dog but he wasn't making any headway pulling the dog. when i was able to get away, i had so wanted to grab his phone and throw it in the mud but i couldn't because of the stupid dog. when he finally reined in his dog, he apologized still holding his phone, and i called him an asshole dickhead. yes, i did!

and there i thought i had made a headway with my fear of dogs when i went to ottawa last month. now, i'm back to cowering even seeing a small dog.

you remember in yesterday's post i wrote about someone saying 'smart phones are turning people into assholes'? well, that was one example. i don't know what was so dire that the guy couldn't put away his phone so that makes him an asshole. and as i kept swearing, something i very seldom do, spewing out all vile words i could think of, also made me an asshole, and it wasn't even my phone!

update: tagging this for week 40 of the 52 capture challenge. this week we are creating dramatic effect using backlighting.
Oh that is such a shame - it certainly won't help your fear of dogs. Usually it is with excitement rather than aggression, but it is still bad behaviour!

This story made me angry and laugh at the same time.

A pretty fountain. I like the sparkle of the water in the sun.
*sigh* to the issue of phones. Glad you were not hurt. Another case of "I have rights" and it doesn't matter if they impinge on the rights of others.

The light captured in the water is really nice on your shot. It seems that both the dog owner and the dog need to be better trained.

I think I remember your photo of this fountain somewhere else in your project! I really like how you framed it with the trees and the light it fabulous.

Sorry to hear about the self absorbed waste of skin that allowed his dog to be as ill mannered as he is.

Great fountain but what a traumatic time that you had.

Lovely capture with the light on the water droplets. Your dog encounter was an awful thing to happen some people have no manners.

I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with a big dog again! Some people really should not be allowed to own dogs unless they (the people) go to obedience school to learn how to handle them!
But - your commentary made me smile ... I can just imagine you spouting out like that! Good for you to stand up to him like that!

you certainly got the dramatic effect on this fountain here. Looks great.
As for the dog story - so sorry this happened to you. I know I would freak out if similar - if something like that happens to me I freak out internally and freeze on the spot unable to react at all. Those extending leads are pretty pointless it seems.
