okay, i really do suck at night photography. of about 105 shots, this is the only one that was 'decent', and i kid you not. since i came up with other bright ideas on this subject that only involve day photography, this will be the only night photo of the CN tower that i shall display here.
i snuck out tonight, even though feeling woozy, because the sky is clear and i know i won't get rained on :-) in my haste, i forgot the *#@?# tripod. i thought it was a good thing that i had my gorilla tripod in my camera bag, but nooooo, darn thing kept moving!
i went picnik-ing and HDR-ish processed it but i thought i'd show my handiwork in its original state. so please, please, please be nice, plus i'm sickie!
This is really, really cool. Your processing is bang on and please try some more when you feel better! Practice makes perfect and you are well on your way! Get better, my friend!
I do like the perspective. And the original actually does have that "mother ship" look to it. Not that I've seen one before but in movies, they always seem to be surrounded by fog, massive exhaust clouds or dust storms - which gives them this hazy look. Hope you feel better soon - and less woozy. As for the gorilla - I was going to buy one but now I'm reconsidering. Thanks for the tip!
whoa! that was quick! what are you two doing up so late? @slang - you really think so? you are so kind and sweet. thank you. @reanne - thank you, too. the hazy/blurry ones i took do look like alien ships. as for the gorilla, i never got the hang of it while other photogs swear by it. i got a good brand (which i forgot but i got it at henry's) and paid reasonable price for it but the gorilla just ape me around everytime.
I actually like the before more, I think! Just seems more...I don't know. It just caught my eye. Hah. I haven't really tried night photography yet. This would have been a great photo for the night theme going on!
I'm so sorry you are sickie.......! And yet you still snuck out and went picturing........! Such dedication! The mothership title cracked me up -- and I like the details on the second one -- but the first one is more elusive and mysterious! (take care of yourself -- rest!!)
I like the softness of the original but your processing is good also. I think your night photography would be great as your perspective is good. Next time and yes there should be a next time- bring the tripod.
@steeler - howard, you made me laugh with your comment. i like it. thank you. @jannkc - thank you, jann. i'm not ruling it out entirely but i'm sure it won't be soon.
Don't give up!!! Try, try again! The tripod over all is tricky at night, even pushing the shutter button causes tremors... Play w/ your settings. You're being too hard on yourself. Loving both the before and after shots for different reasons. Keep at it!!!
@slang - you really think so? you are so kind and sweet. thank you.

@danig - ahhh, you are so kind. thank you so much.
@gailreese - gail, thank you.
