moving north from the financial district of toronto (about 3 blocks north, actually), still in the heart of downtown toronto, here is our city hall. or city halls. the building on the right is part of the old city hall, which is now used as a courthouse. the curved buildings on the centre left is the new city hall.
in front of the new city hall building is a large square with a big fountain that serves as a public skating rink during the winter months.
there were a lot of people at the square in front of the new building because they have farmers' market there on wednesdays. i got lucky with this shot as there was no street car passing by. it was a windy day in toronto, the fluffy clouds moving so quickly sometimes hiding the sun, sometimes hiding the blue sky.
@pamfromcalgary - thanks, pam. when i first came to the city and saw the new city hall, i asked if there has ever been a ufo sighting around here. the dome in between the two buildings looks like a launching pad for an alien spaceship.
@steeler@meggageg@cscecil - so do i! i guess there is truth in the saying that the if the new is silver, the old is gold. i definitely think the older building has more character. thanks, guys!
I love comparing those two buildings -- great idea. I love both buildings. And I was there today too! Sitting in city council to be specific. I was wishing that I'd brought my camera with me to take pictures of some of the funky 60's artwork and architecture inside new city hall.
i agree that the power lines add texture and a geometric sense to the photo. i am always trying to not have them in my shots, but they are part of urban life. wonderful capture of growth.
@bkbinthecity - our old city hall building is one of those heritage designated building. it has a clock tower that is still working. @bohemianme - you were in council? hmmmm. that is interesting. you and i should have a chat! @patticake - thanks, patti. i had to find an angle where i can get both buildings with the least power lines across them. because there are streetcars passing through the main street, there's a lot of them.
@jannkc - i prefer old buildings, i think they have more character and they have more character. the new one has character, too, but it just doesn't appeal to me. thanks, jann. @catsmeowb - i agree, too. thanks, camille. @danig - thanks, DG. :-) @ilseal - thank you, ms. ilse.
