"Is there anybody going to listen to my story
All about the girl who came to stay
She's the kind of girl you want so much it makes you sorry
Still you don't regret a single day
Ah, girl. Girl."
(Lennon, McCartney, from the album "Rubber Soul", 1965)
this particular song did not make the US and UK charts at the time of release, but it did in manila, because around that time, we were crazy about the beatles. alas, asian charts didn't matter at the time.

here's the picture i was taking of the blonde girl yesterday. she was just sitting there on the grass despite it being windy and cold, alternately staring at the lake and looking at her blackberry. she was also feeding the seagull next to her, despite there being a sign to not feed the birds.
we had more of the same weather from yesterday. i walked down to the market to get some nuts (i know what do i need more nuts for?) for my snack and it was pissy rain and windy. the only photograph i took was that of a man working on a hole on the pavement (would have been good yesterday for the letter F song - "fixing a hole" - but it was a day too late. oh, well!) and some wall decor that was weird.
@pamfromcalgary - thanks, pam. i quite like, too. for a hurried sneaky shot, it came out in focus, centered and just a tad tilted you could almost not notice it.
@bkbinthecity - nothing wrong with sneaky shots. as long as they don't know :-)
@roth - shhhhh (again! LOL). it was one of my sneaky shots from yesterday. i have one where her face is shown, but in deference to her privacy, i chose to post this one. plus i like the seagull right next to her. thanks, sue!
@danig - i like the girl and the seagull, too, especially that they made my photo quite nicely. thanks, DG. title for a book? about a girl and a seagull, of course?
@altadc - the sky here was gray and awesomely processed to look awesomely blue. :-) thanks, alta.
i really like the shot, with her long curly hair and the gull. fits the words of the song quite nicely - one of theirs i am not familiar with at all! this is such a serene photo, really like it - i am reading that you processed it to make the sky blue. good job!
@catsmeowb - thanks, camille. this is one of john lennon's compositions early on. there's a stanza towards the end of the song that goes: "was she told when she was young that pain would lead to pleasure; did she understand it when they said that a man must break his back to earn his day of leisure, will she still believe it when he's dead?" i remember reading a long time ago that this was their shot at the roman catholic church, long before the 'we're more popular than JC fiasco/incident'. and yes, i just clicked the exposure button in my camera and it changed the colour of the sky.
wow, that is neat- my camera won't do that, or at least i don't think it does that. i discovered new things about it the other day that surprised me but now can't find them again. my brain. had a whole bunch of seizures over the weekend and nothing is sticking. yesterday i asked someone how they managed to get a door into a photo. . .hours later i realized, editing. blush.
@russianblue - thanks, kass. i walked from bay and front up to king and victoria and the sun was out; going back though it was a totally different story. crazy weather we're having these days, eh?
isn't there a name at 365 for the sneaky from behind shots? I heard it when I first joined and forget the exact wording now. Anyway ---- cool sfbs, love the perspective, another good match for your song choice.
@sunnygreenwood - thank you, anne. re the sneaky shots name, i've not read anything about that, but i will check the discussion board on the weekend for that. :-)
the girl in your photo was clearly far too absorbed in her own thoughts to see the sign not to feed the birds (bless her); as to the song, in a 1970 interview with Rolling Stone, Lennon claimed the lyrics were a dig at the Roman Catholic Church and their attitude to females...while a later interview with the same magazine (5 December 1980), Lennon said his 1980 song "Woman" was "the grown-up version of 'Girl.'"
