"in my life" by the beatles

"There are places I remember
all my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain.
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life, I've loved them all.
xxx
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more."
(Lennon, McCartney, from the album 'Rubber Soul', 1965)

i love this song by john lennon best. the lyrics are a poignant tribute to his childhood.

-o0o-

i would often sing this song in my head. this morning, i thought i'd listen to it just to see if it will inspire me for my post for today (there are a lot of songs by the beatles that start with the letter 'i'). when the song started to play, i started to have goosebumps and when i heard john lennon's voice, i got misty eyed and i had to press the stop button. so, this is what i came up with: a collage of my close friends, favourite relatives, ex-flames and the places i've been. i didn't realize i have so many photos to sort out and scan to disk, but so little time to do it.

wouldn't it be a hoot if one or two 365-ers would chance upon this collage and recognize one of my ex's? hehehe!
Well, don't think I know any of your exes..........but I love your collage!! And the words are VERY poignant! Makes me want to go do a collage, too! Those words really speak to my heart.....!

what a wonderful collage, super idea to go with the "I" song. I have a [married] friend on facebook who has an album devoted to old boyfriends. Great fun.

@sunnygreenwood - wow! i could do that, perhaps, but i don't have photos of them all. lol! thank you, anne.

Nope! Don't recognize anybody! LOL Amazing collage. Looks like you have travelled and/or lived in many different places. Interesting collage and life, Summerfield.

Fabulous idea and collage. Wow, very powerful but that is a powerful song. Thanks for reminding me about it. Love your work Ms Summefield.

@karenann - yes, i have done some travelling in my young life, initially as part of my job, and then as a free-spirited, liberal, young person of theworld (or adventuress - that's what an old aunt used to call me when the word still held a bad meaning). i lived in europe for love and lived in oman for a job. now i'm here in canada for me :-) the collage is like a one-sentence summary of my 58 years so far. thank you, karenann.

Great collage and theme follow- wouldnt claim knowing them if I did cuz that would be just too weird.

@pamfromcalgary - it is indeed a powerful song. maybe it's my age but i really didn't realize how powerful this song is when i listened to it yesterday. i was really taken aback by its effect and i went about my work the rest of the day quite subdued (but still productive, mind you). i think it will be a long time before i listen to it again. right now what's in my head is enough. thank you, ms. pam hawkes, and if you must know, i love your work, too!

@jannkc - thanks, jann. but why "weird"? i am still friends with all of my ex-flames (and now including their wives and ex-wives).

love the song, and yes, it can make me misty eyed, too. this is such a wonderful collage; nothing makes us more aware of LIFE than a stroll down memory lane. my son and son-in-law both worked at an emotional growth school where what music was allowed for the students was very restricted due to the connotations associated with it; at first i was horrified. how could they do that, i asked? but with youth with emotional issues, it was one way to keep them stable. music brought back memories and the counselors could not always be there when needed. so, music was not allowed except under controlled conditions like music classes.

@catsmeowb - most people i've met only rarely listen to the lyrics of a song, they like a song for the beat, the rhythm. i get to like a song because of its lyrics, the more powerful the more it affects me. this is why i know a lot of songs that most others don't know about because the songs never got airtime or never made it to top 100. in that context, i can see why the class would be subject to controlled music. the first bars alone, before any lyrics are spoken, can stir something in the senses. thank you, camille. i so love your photograph today, i fav'd it.

i find that so interesting. i listen to so much that malcolm then says, what is this? way back when i was a kid, i was convinced the ' generation gap' of music would be the cure between my children and me because we would listen to the same music- rock! i grew up going to sunday night orchestras, ballets, leonard bernstein, my stepmother was an organist - we all played something and sang in the choirs and the musical society was part of our lives. of course, my boys love completely different tunes than i do! yet they all say they know all the old ones when they hear them and laugh so hard because no matter what a song is, mal will say it is ac/cd or ccr singing, everytime. love that man.

I enjoy to look at al those faces of you, your family and your friends. Your holiday-pictures. Makes me curious: where is your family from? Indonesia perhaps?

nice interesting collage! From Philippines to the world! Love how you documented this with the collage, and oh so right for the song!
September 10th, 2011
@catsmeowb - when the nephews and nieces were young, they loved britney spears and christina aguiellera (my niece said, underscore 'loved'). i said i don't like them. then i keep singing his song "reflections" or something because i said i like the lyrics. didn't know that was christina's song. i listened to her one day and i liked her voice. well, malcom is quite better than me, i only know CCR but not ac/dc. or maybe i know their songs i just don't know it's theirs :-P

@ilseal - my family's from the philippines, ms. ilse. thank you for your kind comments.

Great collage. I know what you mean about so many old photos. I have way too many of them and so little time
September 11th, 2011
@bkbinthecity - and just when you thought you're just about done, you find another box with more old photos! ngek! thanks. is melody wearing a fascinator? lovely!
September 11th, 2011
great idea but I want to see it big!!
September 11th, 2011
@danig - use the magnifier, perhaps? :-) well, you get to see all these when you come here. and more, too. there are only four ex-flames in that collage. :-P
September 11th, 2011
No, don't recognize any of them! ;-)
September 12th, 2011
@russianblue - whew! haha. thanks, kass.

great glimpse into your past, Summerfield...I really like the song and in Peter Shotton's biography of John Lennon he claims that Lennon told him that the lines "Some [friends] are dead and some are living/In my life I've loved them all" referred to Stuart Sutcliffe (who died in 1962) and to Shotton himself.

love this idea!
