"There is a place,
Where I can go,
When I feel low,
When I feel blue.
And it's my mind,
And there's no time when I'm alone."
(Lennon and McCartney, from the album "Please Please Me", 1963)
This song was inspired by the line "There's a place for us, somewhere a place for us..." from the song "Somewhere", the theme from the play "West Side Story". The McCartneys owned the album and the song was composed at the McCartneys' home. Lennon is quoted as saying: "'There's a Place' was my attempt at a sort of Motown, black thing." It says the usual Lennon things: 'In my mind there's no sorrow...' It's all in your mind." The song was part of the band's stage repertoire in 1963. (source: wikipedia)

beautiful day in toronto today, clear blue skies but the breeze was quite strong. people were out in full force, enjoying the balmy 21 degrees, a precursor to the cold days ahead. walked over to the st. james cathedral for my photo idea but as i was taking shots of the fountain at the park with the cathedral's spire in the background, these birds decided to take a bath (what are they, sparrows? chickadees? eagles?:-)) and played in the water.
note on yesterday's photo of the strawberries: sorry, in my haste, i forgot to mention that it was a photo of a poster outside a grocery store. i was going to buy a pint of strawberries for my photo idea but i didn't have cash on me and the nearest bank was two blocks away. it was pissy raining and cold and damp, and yet i didn't want to use my bank card to pay for something that's only worth $5. then i saw this floor to ceiling poster just outside the grocery store: an enlarged photo of a pair of hands scooping strawberries. so i took a picture of the poster, zooming only on the strawberries. in fact, i got all kinds of reflections of the lights and nearby store signs. so in the 'paint' program, i cloned and patched the parts especially the sepal (the green leaf thingy in the middle right) which had a big rectangle of bluish ceiling light reflected on it. it looked crude but when i posted it, i was amazed that the patching/repair job was almost unnoticeable. so in essence, the picture i posted is mine because i used my camera to take a picture of the poster.
This is such a "happy" photo!! Beautiful color and processing here. P.S. Congrats on the "strawberry" pic! I thought it was the REAL thing! Great work.
@karenann - thank you, karenann. i had a good time photographing the birds, and the bonus was the water 'in action' that resulted in the water trickling from the top tier and the birds swooping down on it. it's almost like they know they were being photographed.
oh, i love that fat, dark bird in front looking right at the camera who looks like he is wearing a tux with an orange bill. and your comment - sparrows, chickadees, eagles? too funny! i have a whole bunch of bird feeders and can identify 5 birds. keep saying i will get a bird book. . .
@catsmeowb - i know they're not pigeons because in one of the photos, there was a pigeon that joined them. maybe swallows? orange-billed-tux-wearing birds? boa constrictor? ay, whatever, they're cute, aren't they? i made you smile, didn't i? there, my job for the day is done! :-) have a nice day and thank you.
I love the song "Somewhere" from West Side Story -- and how cool that it was inspiration for this Beatles song! I LOVE your shot -- the birds, the sunlight, the water -- it sings HAPPINESS!!
@danig - they were indeed! and i had a ball snapping away! thank you, DG.

@altadc - thank you, alta.
@patticake - thank you, patti. and thank heavens i didn't have to go on my stomach to shoot it! :-) i take it you are a lennon fan?
