"all you need is love" by the beatles

"There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game.
It's easy.

Nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time.
It's easy.

All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need."
(Lennon, with McCartney, from the album "Magical Mystery Tour", 1967)

This song was first performed by The Beatles on Our World, the first live global television link. Watched by 400 million in 26 countries, the programme was broadcast via satellite on 25 June 1967. It was not, however, a completely live performance as the group along with the accompanying orchestra were overdubbing a pre-recorded track. They were in a studio watched by friends and acquaintances who were also celebrities of the British pop scene. The song was released as a single and immediately became number one in the UK and later it spent a week as number one in the US charts.

what better way to end this 'beatles' month but with one of their more famous songs. i have seen the video of this song only once when i was still in the old country. the second time was this morning. it's unbelievable that john lennon has been gone almost 21 years now, as well as george harrison.

ooops! i almost forgot to tell this story: about fifteen years ago, at an office where i used to work, a young lady was quite happy to hear me humming a beatles song. she said 'the beatles' were her favourite and that she knew all their songs. her mother introduced her to the music of the beatles at an early age and she got hooked. she said she wished they would get together again. when i told her that john lennon's sons julian and sean could take his place (george harrison was still alive at the time). she asked why. i said, "it's kinda hard for a dead person to be singing." she said, "what do you mean dead person?" i looked at her, all young and innocent. apparently, her mother forgot to tell her that john lennon died in 1980. she was so shocked she cried. the girl was heartbroken, i tell you. i felt a tad guilty. but she got over it although she said she didn't talk to her mother for a few days. i mean, how difficult was it to tell your daughter "oh, by the way, this dude here has been dead for quite a while."

thank you, my friends, for sticking it out with me on this theme. your wonderful comments have been really appreciated and i hope to do better next month, for you.
What a great month of Beatles favorites and an appropriate finale, now if the world would just listen "all we need is love"

Oh my goodness, that's sad and funny that you were the one to break the news to her about John Lennon!!!! How cool that she was such a fan of the Beatles from so early an age! This has been a great theme! And this is a perfect song to end the Summerfield Series with!!! I have loved every single day -- always eager to see your next creative sharing! Thanks for sharing so freely and richly!!!!
