'reflected' is the word i chose from the 16th line.
last night, i commented on
@karenann's post which showed her beautiful quilt collection and other favourite things, and got into a mini discussion about quilts.
i had been wanting to have a quilt for myself but not been lucky enough to find one i can like. last spring i decided to change my beddings to white and blue, i simply got tired of the pinks and ecru, and thought i should have a quilt. last summer i saw this quilted coverlet at a quaint little shop on front street near the market. i had passed by the store, browsed the quilts so many times since; they sell a lot of 'victorian' stuff, coverlets, pyjamas, nighties, tablecloths, runners, etc. the price, however, was quite restrictive - $235 for the coverlet alone. it's very well made, i could tell by the seams. two weeks ago, i saw that it was on sale at $110. since i'm gearing up for a trip i thought i shouldn't make a major purchase ($100 items to me are a major purchase). but, after the little discussion with karenann, i thought i should just go for it. i like the print, it's in the colours i want, it's well made.
today at lunch, i set out to make the purchase but i still had second thoughts. so i told the lady at the shop that i'll take my lunch first then come back. at lunch, i reflected on the reasons why i should buy another quilt when i already have a few really good quality blankets, a down filled duvet (although it's a double while my bed is queen size), all of which i have not used in the last few years. but i suppose as one gets older our taste for anything changes. i really like this quilt and i have not made a major purchase for myself in a long time (cameras excepted as that's for a hobby). so after lunch, i reflected for a few more minutes (i.e., i ate dessert!) and just went straight to the shop and bought it.
which was a good thing! because when the lady started to wrap the quilted coverlet, she also gathered the shammed pillow and the throw pillow case. i told her i don't have a need for them so i'm not buying them (the sham was $59 and the other $45), she looked at me then said, "why don't i just include them in the price?" i said, "you mean it's my lucky day?" and she said, "yes!"
so there, after i carefully reflected on this purchase, i went for it and got a pillow sham and the pillow as well as the throw pillow case, all for a mere $123 including taxes. (thanks,
@karenann - my holiday money is a hundred dollars short, but i got my quilt! yay me!)
@bkbinthecity - thank you, and hope you had a nice time wherever it was you've been to.
@alia_801 - thank you, alia.
@jannkc - thank you, jann. last night i had reflected some more on how to set this up for the shot. an old laura ashley book was on the shelf so i got some ideas there.
@steeler - i almost felt guilty then as i read on you cracked me up! i really thought you were going to make me make a donation to the UNICEF or something (i do make donations to UNICEF yearly). i'm sure this is the last quilt purchase i had to make. thank you, howard.
@roth - yay! thank you, sue. d'yah win?
@cscecil - why, thank you, CS. as someone who sews, i also value your say on this quilt. it's heavy and yet it's so soft. i really think it's beautiful.
great snap tho!
@patticake - i'm a funny duck, sometimes. i would scrimp on my self but go all out for my family, especially my niece and nephews who are in school, or with my grandsons. then i get sick and tired of always scrimping and i find excuse to spend my money on silly things. this one though is both a need and a desire; we may add "whim". but my old slightly used blankets will be given to those who well deserve them or to the salvation army. thank you, patti.
@roth - hahahaha! i AM packing my bags; going to a far flung place hot and humid. come along!
