here's another one for the steeler!
a few months ago, we discovered a new sunday breakfast haunt about five kilometres northwest of where we live. it is an old diner that still serves those artery clogging breakfast of old. the smell of bacon frying in its own fat is not as bad as other restaurants. it's an old diner that has refurbished its looks but refuses to modernize its menu and not in the least apologetic about it, although they do ask you if you want white or brown toast with your order.
there is a group of men well beyond their sixties, about nine of them, who would come in early, order their cholesterol laden breakfast of sunny-side up eggs, hash and bacon, and talk about their daily rides, the views, their cars and just the bikes generally, like an informal club or committee. a young man would join them, always belatedly, and would always get the comment from the oldest guy "we were going to leave without you, you're late again!" to which the young man, about 28-30, would just smile and shake his head and brush off the sleep in his face as he orders the same breakfast.
partner and i would sit at a corner table by the window and i'd be snapping pictures of cars going by or people walking by, which always turn out bad anyway because the position is such that i am facing the morning sun and the glass windows get reflections of all kinds.
this time, after we ate, i was taking shots of these bikes, trying to get the best angle, when i decided to look back at the restaurant to see if the guys were looking. got them! they were all gawking by the window, some half standing. they smiled, rather awkwardly, and i held up my hand and gave them the 'peace' sign and they reluctantly made the sign, too. then i continued to shoot the bikes.

@steeler - are you doing the happy dance yet? been harping over black and white and my not being a fan of it and so fate's punishing me with six days of black and white. but you know, howard, i had thought that if i had to shoot in black and white, i might as well make someone happy for doing so. thank you.
@catsmeowb - you mean the cord was simply loose and you just had to re-connect? or you needed a new cord? but that's great, the important thing is you're connected. so let's do the happy dance with howard then! thank you, camille.
@pandorasecho - wow! dixie, i am humbled by your compliment. thank you so much. that means a lot to me.
