all that gold by summerfield

all that gold

and it's hidden in black and white. there is a shop of 'asian crafts and decors' that i pass by on the way to the office. it has all these fancy dust-scooping furniture, frames and knick-knacks. this is a large statue, about three feet tall with this deity sitting in a lotus position. it is painted entirely in gold with the occasional jade and other coloured crystal trimmings, but the deity is entirely painted in gold.

if i put this in my home, i would go insane cleaning the dust off this statue. oh, yeah, i forgot, i'm already insane. but if this is in my home, it means i'm well off and i'm pretty sure i would be able to hire a helper to dust it! still insane, though! hahaha!

i shot this through the glass on a bright sunny afternoon with the light coming from the left. i could be wrong but i think this is a hindu deity.

no coloured version for this shot. i only shot this in black and white, tweaked the exposure a bit, and used the 'emboss' function in ipiccy to bring out the details. say you're impressed.

and stop looking at the nipple!
very, very impressive photo, although i would not want this in my home for similar reasons. the processing works very well to bring out all the detail; i am eager to try this feature now. interesting effect. nicely done.

Oh, I am impressed. I think he is Buddha and not Hindu, we saw several different aspects of Buddha while living in China and this look was very prevalent.

@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. i really much prefer ipiccy over picmonkey.

@pandorasecho - buddha it is then. thank you, dixie.

very effective in b/w -- and yes, that dusting is for the birds!!!
May 9th, 2012
@cscecil - dusting is for the birds! hahaha. but true. thank you, CS.

I am impressed!! Truly. Love the b&w AND the embossed feature. (Must look into that ipiccy!) What impresses me is that you got this through glass ... I usually just get my own reflection back doing that. Great work here ....impressive, summerfield! :)

A beautiful Buddha statue. Buddha is regarded as an incarnation of Vishnu, a Hindu deity, so he's worshipped by both Hindus and (Chinese) Buddhists. Very lovely shot. 8)

Exquisite!

@karenann - thank you, karenann. the statue is right in front, nearest the glass window so i pressed the lens against the glass, that's why there's no reflection.

@myautofocuslife - thank you, livia. i should've paid attention to my asian history when i was young. actually, i did, but i forgot now.

@netkonnexion - thank you, damon.

@alia_801 - thank you, alia.

@danig - thank you, matey. be thankful it's just the nipple. there could've been other things!
May 10th, 2012
@summerfield Lol we're talking about Buddha here!
May 10th, 2012
@danig - yes, i'm talking about mr. buddha here.

Another strong black and white. I would have gone crazy with the reflection problem but you pulled it off with no trouble. Interesting processing- I've tried that emboss but didn't get this kind of result. Must be the type of picture makes the difference.

interesting processing!looks so strong in b&w!

Awesome capture. Love the detail and composition. I think it works perfectly in b&w. The main thing though is that nipple. I once read that the sign of a great photographer is nipple placement. Just kidding ;) I'm really liking your theme this week.
