"Thou blossom bright with autumn dew,
And colored with the heaven's own blue"
- from 'to the fringed gentian', William Cullen Bryant, U.S. poet

there are two flower arrangements in hydrangeas: mophead flowers are large round flowerheads resembling pom-poms or, as the name implies, the head of a mop; in contrast, lacecap flowers bear round, flat flowerheads with a center core of subdued, fertile flowers surrounded by outer rings of showy, sterile flowers, like the one shown here.
thank you so much for your visits and your comments, my good friends. know that they are so much appreciated. i hope you all have a nice day.
this is such a lovely shot and the info is fantastic. i want blue hydrangeas very much but our soil is not acid enough. i know i can treat the soil to make it so, but have so many other things going on i have not gotten to the point where i have addressed this yet. maybe in a few years i will make the effort. wonderful, wonderful shot.
@catsmeowb - i don't know what it is you need to put in the soil to get the colours. dixie @pandorasecho said she once poured chlorinated pool water on her blue hydrangea and the flowers turned pink and it took a while for the plant to flower with its original colour. i'd like to plant some of this, too, but maybe someday. near future, preferably. thank you, camille.
@pamfromcalgary - this was the first time i've seen them, too. thank you, pam.
@danig - ya likes? thank you, DG.
