at the writing sanctuary today, i chose to sit on a large armchair by the window that looks out to the front yard. i did not notice the bird feeder and only did when i saw a lot of birds flying about the trees. one bird even hit the window at some point in our writing practice.
in the afternoon, we were seated quietly doing free writing when i happened to look out and heard a commotion of the aviary kind. turned out these two very small yellow birds were harassing a blue jay trying to get in on the action in this feeder. the blue jay would fly away into the trees beyond then come back with the same results from these two. then i noticed that the birds seemed to deliberately drop some seeds. then i saw it. right below them was a chipmunk who was gathering his bounty.

i had a great time at the writing sanctuary. the only thing that was not positive in a way for me was that the place is so beautiful and raw that i really wanted to just leave them and just take photos. thank you for your support and encouraging words, they mean a lot to me.
@pamfromcalgary - i soooooo wanted to, but i appreciate the fact that i was there to do some writing. i was going to cheat by going on the internet but they didn't want to give us a password, even when i said that i normally write straight onto my blog. thank you, pam.
@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. i realized quite a while back that i had lost my writing mojo, but still i was in denial. photography has completely taken over. it was quite a struggle, but in the afternoon, i sort of got my groove back. i think i will have to overhaul my schedule so i can give both writing and photography equal time. i don't really want to end up like my father, having so much talent but not accomplishing anything that is self gratifying.
Goldfinches are so cute- and busy! It doesn't surprise me that they were helping out the chipmunk either. As for the photography/writing, I'm finding the photography is actually encouraging me to write- but then I've always been more visual than auditory when it comes to creative things. I don't know if I could force myself to write thousands of words every day. I tend to think, think, think and then boom- everything just spills out. Then I go back and edit, edit edit!
Beautiful color. And a nice distraction. We have a similar scenario goin on at our bird feeder. But instead of chipmunks, we have doves. The doves are too big to land on the feeder, so the stay at the bottom while the little sparrows and cardinals drop food down to them.
