Chaffinch Getting Lost in the Long Grass

This is at the bottom of the bird feeders where the messy birds have dropped seeds (nuthatches are the main culprits!). The seeds have germinated and the grass or whatever it is has formed a thick little carpet.

lovely little birds - I think those other birds are meant to feed messily because they help germinate seeds for the next year :)
