On the 29th May I posted a picture of Mr Woody https://365project.org/susiemc/birds-and-other/2019-05-29 and said that he was continually coming to the birdfeeder, filling his beak and then flying off. We never saw Mrs Woody and I hoped there was a nest somewhere and she was looking after the little ones. Well today I saw Dad feeding a youngster on the birdfeeder. Almost immediately they both flew into the oak tree at the back of the house and landed on this dead branch. The youngster (on the right) was clearly watching Dad getting insects. Still haven't seen Mum. Maybe there are other youngsters which haven't fledged yet.
It's very easy to identify the male, female and youngster. The adult male has red at the back of his neck, the female has no red on her head and the juveniles have red on the top of their head.
I think you might see quite a few more woodpecker photos.
A lovely colourful family to join your garden - I was delighted to spot a female ( I think ) on the bird table yesterday but flew off before I could get the camera in operation from the Kitchen window ! Lovely to have that old gnarled tree for them ! fav
